Who is Updater?

Updater is a move-in technology company that connects people moving into a new home with the services they need to set it up, including TV and internet from the major national providers. SmartMoving partnered with Updater to build that experience directly into your customer portal.

What is the Updater TV & Internet integration?

An integration inside SmartMoving that lets your customers compare the TV and internet plans available at their new address and buy online, in your branded customer portal. You earn on every completed activation.

What does it cost?

Nothing. There is no subscription increase, branch fee, volume minimum, or tier requirement.

How much can I earn?

Approximately $50 on average for each completed internet activation. Actual earnings vary by provider, plan, and market and may be higher or lower. There is no cap on how much you can earn.

How and when do I get paid?

By direct deposit each month. You are paid after SmartMoving receives payment from Updater, which can be up to 60 days after the end of the month the activation was completed in. Once setup is done there is no invoice to submit and no payment to chase.

What happens if a customer orders but never gets installed?

Earnings are based on completed installations. An order that is cancelled or never installed does not qualify, and if it already appeared in your earnings it comes off a later payout.

What do I need to get set up?

Your legal business name, any DBAs, your EIN or tax ID, business address, a payout contact, and a completed W-9. No banking information is entered in SmartMoving.

Does my team have to sell or support TV or internet service?

No. Updater and the selected provider handle the purchase, the installation, and all service support. Your team never quotes plans, schedules installations, or answers service questions.

Will this get in the way of booking the move?

You control where and when it appears. Put it on the estimate, wait until after the estimate is signed or the deposit is paid, or keep it out of the portal and use email and text instead.

Can I control how it appears to my customers?

Yes. You choose the placements and the customer-facing labels, and your portal branding carries into the experience, so it fits your brand and your workflow.

What information is shared with Updater?

The destination address, contact information, and move date so your customer sees real plans for their new home without entering everything again. Your customer chooses whether to continue.

Who is eligible?

U.S.-based SmartMoving customers of any size, tier, or move volume. We are enabling accounts one at a time right now so we can help each early adopter get set up and stay close to how it performs.

Could I set something like this up on my own?

Not with Updater. They do not offer this integration directly to moving companies. Through SmartMoving you get Updater checkout across the major providers, with plans based on your customer's new address, built into the portal you already send.

Can other moving companies offer this?

Other SmartMoving customers can turn it on. Movers on other moving software have nothing like it today, so the companies quoting against you are still handing customers a phone number.

Is TV & Internet the only thing SmartMoving and Updater are working on?

TV & Internet is the first phase of the partnership. Updater supports other parts of the move-in experience, and we will evaluate what comes next based on adoption, customer experience, and results.
